In today’s sunlit news, this afternoon a feisty titmouse flew to the feeder at my window, pecked seeds from the dwindling suet cake, and got a whole cake corner in his beak. Unheard of. With a triumphant shiver, he leapt off the feeder and swooped like a calligraphy stroke to perch in a nearby nandina bush. Its dark leaves shimmied with the victory. I was so happy for him.
