Near Finland Station

On the bank of the Neva we drank red wine and vodka and champagne and ate salted cucumbers and garlic and thick slabs of Ukrainian pork fat. We were very drunk and laughing hard and decided to strip and swim in the river where we floated naked and silent.

On our backs in the water we were each in our dreams and did not feel the current move us downstream to another place where it became suddenly cold and deep. Walking back to camp we passed fishermen watching their lines for any sign from the invisible.

At the end of the day Andrey made a short film on his camera: a long train was crossing the bridge and in the background you could hear us talking, our hands gliding like birds in and out of the frame.
