Break the Routine: Curate Curious Ways to Wag your Pen
“The way to see how beautiful earth is, is to see it from the moon” – Ursula K. LeGuin, The Dispossessed.
As writers, just as humans, we get stuck in certain routines. We write about particular characters and places. We organize our writing in certain ways. We operate in familiar genres and formats, in tried and tested locations and times of the day. Certainly, routines are productive and worthwhile, but can they also become stagnant, and reductive?
In this workshop, we will dive into a variety of creative works, prompts, and genres to freshen our approaches to writing. We will look at different generative processes, drafting techniques, and revision strategies, with the main focus on producing works that may surprise us or take us out of our comfort zones. By the end of the workshop, the goal is to pen two-three new stories, poems, or hybrid works with immediate peer and instructor feedback and to take away a smörgåsbord of resources to reinvigorate our routines.
