And Now For Something Completely Different: Finding the Funny in your Writing with Jonathan Cardew (July 28-30)
Mel Brooks famously said that “tragedy is me stubbing my toes; comedy is you falling down a manhole and dying,” but comedy can come in many shapes and forms, and often can be mined from the most unexpected places. In this interactive and generative workshop, we will peel open the funny onion to investigate humor writing in all its glorious, understated, LOUD, absurdist, joyous modes, with a focus on prompts to kickstart our comedic scribbling. From horror funny, to deadpan funny, to surrealist genre-bending funny, by the end of this workshop, you will be funny guaranteed (ish).
